A joint field trip for the Washington Map Society and William P. Cumming Map Society, to an exhibition at the University of Virginia Library. As Though in Flight: 19th Century American Urban Views, presented by Alex Krieger, Professor of Urban Design, Harvard Graduate School of Design. After the lecture, there will be a gallery tour of the exhibition: Boston and Beyond, A Bird's Eye View of New England.

Harold Brodsky, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Geography and Affiliate in Jewish Studies at the University of Maryland, presents Hidden Messages in the 1695 Map of the Exodus, including looking at the making of maps of the Holy Land in the 17th century. An examination of the flawed map that was used in creating the new border between the United States and Mexico following the Mexican-American war of 1846-1848. The presentation will also examine the long-lasting impact of this map and the border settlement in the following 160 years. For more info contact Jim Hensinger.
