Antique Maps & Antique Prints Upcoming Events

February 10, New York. The New York Map Society meets at the New York Public Library at 2:30 pm. Alice Hudson, chief of the Map Division, will present From Waterside to Landside -Early American Coastal Charts and their Contribution to Landside Information. This presentation will look at a series of charts, including John Seller's English Pilot; Atlantic Neptune sheets; blueback charts; and more. Ms. Hudson will also discuss the 1845 Coast Survey nautical chart of New York Harbor.

February 15, Washington, D.C. The Washington Map Society meets at 7:00 pm, Geography and Map Division, B level, Library of Congress, Madison Building, 101 Independence Avenue. Dr. John Hébert, Chief, Geography and Map Division of the Library of Congress, presents Looking Westward; English 17th Century Mapping of Virginia. Further information, Ed Redmond, 202-707-8548.

February 17, San Marino, CA. The California Map Society's winter meeting, as a joint meeting with the Western Association of Map Librarians, will be held at Friend's Hall, at the Huntington Library. The full program is still to be announced. Contact Susan Caughey.

February 20, Cambridge, England. The Cambridge Seminars in the History of Cartography, Emmanuel College, Gardner Room, St Andrew's Street. Topic is the History of Railway Mapping. For more information: Sarah Bendall.

February 27, Denver. The Rocky Mountain Map Society , 6:30 pm, Denver Public Library. 13th Ave and Broadway, 5th floor, Gates Room. Society member Carl Barna will give a PowerPoint presentation all about cartophilately -- collecting maps on stamps. His own collection forms the basis of this unique presentation.
