Tunison's Florida
Description
Unusual map of the state of Florida, from a little known atlas by H. C. Tunison, published around 1888. This hand-colored map, notable for its vivid pink coloration, shows southern Florida counties in a transitional stage, immediately after Osceola, Polk, De Soto, Lee, and Hillsborough were carved out of the original four: Dade, Monroe, Manatee, and Brevard. The map shows towns, villages, railroads, rivers, lakes, coastal features, and more. In a fascinating sidebar, the publisher included an inset of the jetty system in the mouth of the Mississippi River at New Orleans, complete with explanatory text. A smaller inset shows Western Florida. The sheet is printed on both sides. Very good condition.
