| Attractive, double-hemisphere world map, by engraver Vincent Woodthorpe, published around 1795. While the topographic detail is sparse, the map includes place names and markings consistent with the known world at the time. The United States are confined to a narrow strip of the East Coast; Louisiana stretches to present-day Arizona; Australia is called 'New Holland'; and places such as Tartary, Persia, and Hindoostan also date the map. With several vertical folds, as issued. Some chipping to top edge, not affecting image area. Light age-toning, and narrow margins but ample for matting and framing. The paper is thin but well-preserved. Overall, just about very good condition. |
