| Beautifully handpainted butterfly print, plate number 26, published in British Butterflies And Their Transformations, London, 1841. This magnificent work was created by naturalist and artist Henry Noel Humphreys, whose boundless enthusiasm for butterflies prompted him to compile this, the first definitive work on British butterflies. The plate shows a group of brown butterflies, set against a flowering berry bush with beautiful, indigo blue berries. The image area is somewhat smaller than the 11" x 8.5" sheet. Very good condition. |
