Beautifully handpainted butterfly print, plate number 41, published in
British Butterflies And Their Transformations
, London, 1841. This magnificent work was created by naturalist and artist Henry Noel Humphreys, whose boundless enthusiasm for butterflies prompted him to compile this, the first definitive work on British butterflies. The plate shows a group of butterflies with primarily gold coloration. The right edge of the sheet shows a patch of water damage, which could be matted over. Otherwise very good condition.
