Beautifully handpainted butterfly print, plate number 20, published in British Butterflies And Their Transformations, London, 1841. This magnificent work was created by naturalist and artist Henry Noel Humphreys, whose boundless enthusiasm for butterflies prompted him to compile this, the first definitive work on British butterflies. The plate shows a group of butterflies with mostly grey coloration, some gold. The image area is a little smaller than the 11" x 8.5" sheet. One small spot near left edge, could be matted out, otherwise very good condition.
