| Plate 89 from the 1st octavo edition, Quadrupeds of North America, by John James Audubon,
published in 1851. Say's Squirrel is a beautiful red squirrel, shown in a richly-detailed setting with a farm in the background. Audubon's great work stands today as the monumental 19th-Century record of American animals. The production of the series was overseen by Audubon's sons, V.G. Audubon and J.W. Audubon. Gorgeous rich red coloring on the squirrels, and a crisp impression. A trace of binding glue at top edge of sheet, easily matted out. Very good condition. |
