| Conrad Malte-Brun's Atlas Complet, from which this map comes, was published in Paris in 1812 and was one of the best and most up-to-date atlases of the early-19th century. Malte-Brun, a Danish geographer and publisher who settled in Paris, drew on the skills of French geographer Alexandre Lapie, and engravers Jean-Baptiste Tardieu and Jean-Baptiste Chamouin, in the creation of his atlas. The present antique map shows northern Russia in excellent detail, with a vignette at top left. In very good condition. Reference: Phillips, Geographical Atlases, number 4306. |
