| A large, detail-filled antique map of Minnesota, published by O. W. Gray in the National Atlas, or his United States atlas, around 1875 or shortly thereafter. This in spite of a copyright date of 1867, which undoubtedly date back to the earlier use of the plate by J. H. Colton. The northern part of the state shows a very transitional county organization, with just five counties dominating a huge area. The counties are individually hand-colored, and the map shows county seats, cities, towns, villages, township and range lines, operational and proposed railroads, rivers, lakes, mountains, and more. A small marginal tear has been repaired on verso, otherwise very good condition. Reference: Phillips, Geographical Atlases, number 873. |
