Interesting and elegantly drawn map of the world, published in France around 1857, in the Atlas Generale par L. Dussieux. The map is full of contemporary information and knowledge. Ocean currents and winds are marked, (in French), and the continents are hand-colored in outline. Hawaii is labelled 'Iles Sandwich'; Australia is 'Nouvelle Hollande'; along with other place names appropriate to the time. Africa is almost bissected by a mountain range. Altogether a fascinating and unusual map. A tiny centerfold separation at bottom, outside image area, otherwise excellent condition.
