Johnson's Missouri and Kansas
Description
A very attractive, double-page map of Missouri and Kansas, with individually hand-colored counties, published in Johnson & Ward's New Illustrated Family Atlas, in 1862. Three vignettes appear on the map: 'Santa Fe from the Great Missouri Trail,' 'Fire on the Prairie,' and 'Spearing Fish.' Shows cities, towns, villages, township and range lines, roads, railroads both operational and proposed, locations of Indian tribes, rivers, lakes, and so forth. The mapping of Kansas becomes very sketchy just west of Fort Riley. Very slight age-toning, otherwise very good. Reference: Phillips, Geographical Atlases, number 837.
