A large, (double-page), well-detailed map of these countries from Johnson and Ward's New Illustrated Family Atlas, published in 1862. The area covered is from Austria to Greece, and countries and regions are individually hand-colored. The map shows cities, towns, railroads, roads, canals, mountains, rivers, coastal features, lakes, battle fields, and so forth. There is a small vignette of the 'Mosque of St. Sophia,' and an inset map of 'Candia,' (Crete). A six-inch, lower centerfold separation has been repaired with archival tape; the repair has not completely closed the gap, but the defect is not too distracting. Otherwise, very good condition. Reference Phillips, Geographical Atlases, number 837.
