| Well-detailed, copper-engraved antique map of Egypt from Charles Smith's General Atlas, published in London in 1816. It is dated January 6, 1816, just below the border. The area of the Nile Valley shows extensive geographical knowledge, and here are depicted towns, villages, roads, and so forth. The map, which includes part of present-day Saudi Arabia, also shows mountains, rivers, lakes, oases, plains, desert areas, and the locations of the pyramids. Colored with a delicate pastel wash, the map is in fine condition. Reference: Phillips, Geographical Atlases, number 729. |
