Edward Neale (1833-1904), a British painter and illustrator, did only a handful of the 721 illustrations in H. E. Dresser's The Birds of Europe, since the vast majority of the plates for Birds of Europe were the work of the skilled Dutch illustrator and lithographer John G. Keulemans. Neale was a skilled artist and painter, but not a prolific one. He did illustrations for only a handful of bird books during his lifetime. His paintings today are extremely sought after.
