Currently, we are offering chromolithograph prints from one of the earliest books to contain color canine plates, The Illustrated Book of the Dog, by Vero Shaw. This classic book of dog prints, renowned for the high quality of its printing, was published circa 1890 by Cassell and Company of London. The chromolithographic process involved each separate color being applied by a different lithographic stone. The resulting print is exceptionally crisp, vivid, and clear. Many of the breeds featured in Shaw's book were appearing in color for the first time. In a charming touch, the actual name of each dog pictured, and its owner, is indicated in the title line at the bottom of each print.
