Attractive map of these states. The map depicts hand-colored counties, cities, towns, mountains, rivers, lakes, railroads, so forth. It is from a unique Mitchell atlas, Mitchell's New Atlas of the United States and Territories...Designed to Accompany and Illustrate the Centennial Gazetteer of the United States, published in 1874 by Ziegler and McCurdy of Philadelphia and several other cities. While the maps appear to be exactly the same as those in Mitchell's better known New General Atlas, the border is unique, consisting of a pattern of crosses within circles. Another difference between this atlas and Mitchell's New General is that the pages in this atlas are printed on both sides. Hence, a partial map appears on the verso of this map. This edition not noted in Phillips or LeGear. Very good condition.
