| An elegant, and increasingly scarce map of Florida, published by J. H. Colton in 1857. Nineteenth-century maps showing the individual state of Florida are quickly becoming hard to find. This hand-colored map shows just four counties covering most of southern Florida: Manatee, Brevard, Monroe, and Dade. Towns, villages, forts, railroads, rivers, lakes, Indian tribes, and much more are clearly depicted. With a detailed inset of the Florida Keys, and a decorative, scrollwork border. One or two small, marginal chips to edge of sheet, as typical with maps of this era. Text on verso (back) of map. Very good condition. |
