Carte Geographique, Statistique et Historique de Massachusetts
Description
Desirable, copperplate engraving of Massachusetts, from the 1825 French edition of the famous Carey & Lea atlas. A beautiful and large map of the state, including the Cape. The map is surrounded by French letterpress text, which discusses such important contemporary information as the state's government, commerce, climate, education, towns and villages, religion, key battles, names of governors, and so forth. The surrounding text makes the overall image area 18" x 25". The map itself shows counties, towns, villages, stage roads, mountains, rivers, lakes, and so on. The French edition of Carey & Lea, represented here, is generally the most highly regarded of the various editions from the 1820s, in terms of th quality of the paper and engraving. Very good condition. A desirable antique map of Massachusetts.
