| An historical, copper-engraved antique map of Greece published by the Lapie father-and-son firm in Paris in 1833. The map, dated 1832 on its face, appeared in the landmark Atlas Universel De Geographie. Shows the classical version of Greece, with appropriate classical nomenclature. Well-detailed and fascinating, showing countries, cities, towns, mountains, lakes, rivers, coastal features, and so forth. A small, original blindstamp, consisting of elegantly-scripted initials encircled by the title of the atlas, is found in a blank space at the bottom of the map. It is most likely the logo of the printer. All the maps in this atlas bear this stamp. A trace of browning at the edges of the sheet, otherwise, the map is in very good condition, with huge margins, on heavy paper. Reference: Phillips, Geographical Atlases, number 765. |
