| An attractive, copper-engraved antique map of part of North Africa, published by the Lapie father-and-son firm in Paris in 1833. The map, dated 1829 on its face, appeared in the landmark Atlas Universel De Geographie. The map encompasses present-day Algeria, Tunisia, and part of Libya. Well-detailed and fascinating, showing countries, cities, towns, mountains, lakes, rivers, coastal features, and so forth. A small, original blindstamp, consisting of elegantly-scripted initials encircled by the title of the atlas, is found in a blank space at the bottom of the map. It is most likely the logo of the printer. All the maps in this atlas bear this stamp. Some browning in the margins, overall very good condition, with huge margins, on heavy paper. Reference: Phillips, Geographical Atlases, number 765. |
