Original, octavo-sized prints by the renowned 19th-Century American naturalist, John James Audubon. In the Birds section, we offer 1st edition and later edition prints from Birds of North America, beginning with its publication in 1840. In the Quadrupeds section, we also offer 1st edition and later edition prints of American animals -- less well-known than Audubon's birds, but equally stunning and beautiful prints. The animal prints were published in the octavo edition beginning in 1849, in Quadrupeds of North America.
These octavo-sized prints were reduced size prints -- but still hand-painted -- published by the Audubon family, following the publication of larger, folio-sized works. The intention of the Audubons was to bring their body of work to a wider audience. That goal continues to be accomplished today, since many of the folio size Audubon prints cost upwards of $10,000 to $100,000 each. We are pleased to be able to offer these smaller, but equally authentic, original Audubon prints at a reasonable price. Click on a link below.
