| A beautiful, double-hemisphere projection world map from one of the last American atlases to contain copper-engraved maps ever published. This attractive world map comes from H. S. Tanner's landmark Universal Atlas. Tanner was one the leading cartographic publishers of his day, and the Universal Atlas influenced American map-making for much of the 19th century. Tanner's atlas was the direct predecessor of S. Augustus Mitchell's Universal Atlas. This particular map came from the 1843 edition of Tanner's engravings, published by Carey and Hart. Just a trace of age-toning on the map, otherwise very good condition. |
