We offer antique maps from all regions of the world, ranging from the earliest available 16th century maps to antique maps of the 19th century. Where do antique maps and antique prints come from? That is the most frequent question we hear from customers -- where do these antique prints come from? Antique prints (of which antique maps are simply a popular subcategory) come largely from hand made, illustrated books and atlases published over the centuries. The books have been broken apart long ago for their individual, hand-painted prints, or "plates" as they are sometimes called. A much smaller percentage of antique maps and prints were published "separately" -- perhaps as folding maps, or, in the case of prints, as decorative prints, such as Currier & Ives prints. In either case, these historical prints will almost certainly have been produced by an early printing process, and colored by hand, if they are colored at all. The buying and selling of antique prints has continued for hundreds of years. Today, we are fortunate indeed that many antique prints have survived, and been well cared for. It is now our turn to enjoy these timeless treasures, and to preserve them for future generations. Antique Maps & Antique Prints From Around The World Our antique maps come from all regions of the world, ranging in date of origin from the sixteenth to the nineteenth centuries. Our antique prints include Currier and Ives, small Audubon prints, botanical prints, butterfly prints, bird prints, and an assortment of flora, fauna, and decorative prints. We also carry several map and print collecting reference books.
